Yahoo new look
Long back in 1999 when I was studying my 9th standard the very first website I knew was Yahoo. In fact my first mail Id created was also with this company and I still have this email account active. I am happy to know that Yahoo has turned 18 years old on March 1st. Though it hasn't declared any celebrations on its home page, it stays cool with its new look to its official home page though its sub domains still have the older version.

Yahoo! Inc. was founded by Jerry Yang and David Filo in January 1994 and was incorporated on March 1, 1995. It stood as one of the top 10 most visited websites of the world. It had seen both good and bad times, after the advent of Google it had to struggle to reach its top position but it is now comfortable with 4rth position behind Google, Facebook and YouTube. Former Google executive serves the company as the Chief executive officer named Marissa Mayer. Marissa was appointed as CEO and president on July 16th 2012.

Recently I read an article in Tech crunch which said that Yahoo is referring itself as  a global technology company instead of  digital media company. Marissa too faced lot of criticism this week as she announced that employees should work from office rather than from home. She was also in the headlines before as she expressed dismay with company's partnership with Microsoft. She also announced that search is the priority at the company. That doesn’t mean Yahoo is “a search company”. According to the company’s Investor Relations FAQ, this is what Yahoo “is”:
Yahoo! makes the world’s daily habits inspiring and entertaining. By creating highly personalized experiences for our users, we keep people connected to what matters most to them, across devices and around the globe. In turn, we create value for advertisers by connecting them with the audiences that build their businesses.
Yahoo is struggling a lot to gain its previous position back. Since Marissa Mayer became chief executive of Yahoo, she has been working hard to get the Internet pioneer off its deathbed and make it an innovator once again. We should wait and see what destiny Yahoo holds in the future.
