Top most visited Indian websites

After carefully going through the top most visited websites in the world I thought to do a survey on Top most visited Indian websites in 2011. So the websites provided below are purely Indian based though some of their founders may be abroad but are of Indian origin. And few websites like Sulekha and Justdial are also globally distributed after their success in our country.

1. Rediff: Is there any Indian website which serve you the mailing features like yahoo and Google then the answer is yes its Rediff. Almost offering every thing like Gmail and yahoo with its own Instant messenger called RediffBol has been in list of top websites in the world. It has an alexa rank of 158. It is famous for people who see the stock market. But this site is seeing a gradual decrease in the traffic as rise of many social networking sites like twitter, facebook, Orkut etc has come into existence. But inspite of its downfall in worlds top websites list it stands in the top position in most visited Indian website list. Headed by Ajit Balakrishnan who made this website in 1996 with an investment of 2 Crores is still a successful web portal.

2. Indiatimes: If you know The Times of India News paper then you might also know MD of Times Group Mr. Vineet Jain. His online venture is Indiatimes(dot)com. This portal website is second in the list of top Indian websites. This website as a part of Times Internet Limited is being headed by CEO Mr. Rishi Khiani who formerly worked as COO for Web18 network. This website has news from various fields like politics, sports, entertainment etc. Times internet limited has a group of websites like Timesjobs, simplymarry, magicbricks, techgig etc. It has an alexa rank of 166 making it top 2 in the list of India’s most visited website.

3.In: If you are interested in news then you might know channels like CNN-IBN, IBN7, CNBC Awwaz etc which are a group of India’s leading business news channels owned by Network 18. So a website which sprung from this network group is in.com and very soon found its way into India’s top 3 most visited website and having an alexa rank of 264. This website has took only few weeks in reaching this top position may be having so many media channels for its take off would be the main reason. Homeshop18 a shopping portal which is also gaining its popularity is also one of the sites of this group. So if listed there are several other websites like MoneyControl, Cricketnext, CommoditiesControl, PowerYourTrade, Tech2, Biztech2, IBNLive, Compareindia, Storeguru, Indiaearnings, JobStreet, Indiwo, Buzz18, Josh18. These sites are all categorized in web 18 network. I think we can write nearly 3 to 5 posts based on these sites. Web 18 is a part of network 18 groups. This big group of networks 18 is being headed by its managing director Mr. Raghav Bahl.

This site from its launch had seen a tremendous growth and if it is a festival in India numbers rise so high that even the servers can’t handle the requests of the users. During New Year time all the mobile network providers charge 1 rupee per SMS which made way2sms go its way into the list of top most visited sites of India. It has an alexa rank of 523. This site has got 10.2 million registered users and still growing. Sites like 160by2, smsgupshup, Indiarocks etc had to stay back of this well designed messaging portal by Raju Vanapala who is the Founder and CEO of this website. This website comes under his Way2Online Interactive India Pvt Ltd.

Oneindia has an alexa rank of 533 successfully standing 5th most visited website of India.

6. Naukri: Sanjeev Bikhchandani is famous for his portal websites. I read he had stirred up 300 crores from his websites. Naukri(dot)com one of the famous Job search portal stands 534th most visited website in the world. Some of his other sites include jeevansaathi, shiksha, policybaazar, meritnation, brijj, 99acres etc are some of his famous portals. He runs all these portals under his company Info Edge (India) Limited.

If you see the list of top sites it is always flooded with sites like facebook, myspace, orkut, twitter etc. even after many such famous social networking sites available around, ibibo ha made a unique place by being the 580th most visited website in India. In its about page it says that this website is founded in 2006-2007. This famous facebook like website is being headed by Ashish kashyap who acts as the CEO.

9. IRCTC: Are you tired of standing in the crowd near railway reservation office to book a ticket. Then here it is Indian Railway Catering and Tourism Corporation is a website where most people book their tickets online. Want to book a tatkal ticket then log into IRCTC website at 8 A.M in the morning if you are fast and lucky enough you can have a ticket booked sitting in the home. This ticket booking website portal is a Railway website which is a Central government website. It has an alexa rank of 588 and also won many awards.

A bit of awareness in net banking surely banking sites are going to be the next level sites. A separate category for these sites can be held. C. M. This site which is being maintained by NDTV also one of the most visited Indian website. When people search for news these websites stay very ahead in providing the information than any other website. NDTV is being headed by its Chairman Prannoy Roy and Managing Director Radhika Roy.

This portal claims itself to be India’s number one financial portal. It is well visited by many stock brokers apart from rediff. Being in the network of media it has no difficulties in giving the sensex details.

14. Sulekha: An advertising portal founded by Satya Prabhakar in 1998 stands in the list of most popular websites of India with an alexa rank of 753. We can say it stands top in the list of Yellow Pages websites in India covering almost all the major cities.

This website has an alexa rank of 1,012. I even read somewhere that while Obama visited India he called to Just Dial to enquire about a local Pizza hut in Delhi.

One of the successful government departments which has a very huge turn over and even a separate budget is being submitted in the parliament makes me a little bit surprised to find Google Adsense ads in this website. It has an alexa rank of 1,058 and also won National Award for e-Governance 2010-2011. In one of my previous posts of on what do most people spend their money in India, I mentioned people spend much on traveling so this can be said as a proof for what I have written.

Ranking is purely based on the Alexa ranking recorded on 17th April 2011. These ranks may change in due time depending upon the traffic. Visitors count and page views may vary from day to day those numbers which are provided are estimated and I tried to give 99% accurate numbers.
