The 29-year-old boxer stormed into the semifinals of London Olympics as she routed her Tunisian opponent Maroua Rahali 15-6 in the quarterfinal match of 51kg boxing category. And this win is like a gift to her kids on their fifth birthday which was finished yesterday.

Mary was on the defensive side in the first two rounds which she won 2-1, 3-2 respectively. In the third round, the crowd got to see the better of Mary Kom as she thumped back-to-back punches at her opponent who was taken by surprise. She stepped inside her opponent, who had an advantage of height, and landed some telling blows. With the Tunisian clearly reeling under the pressure of the punches, Mary Kom went for the kill winning the round 6-1. The fourth was a formality as the Indian conserved her energy and relied on counter-attacks. Her opponent too seemed to be out of energy, not even trying to reduce the seven-point deficit.

With this victory, India are now confirmed of another bronze medal but the way Mary has been performing in her first Olympics, she can definitely produce better results.

Mary Kom will now lock horns with Nicola Adams of Great Britain in the semi-final.

In her debut match, Mary convincingly defeated Karolina Michalczuk of Poland to cruise into the quarterfinal of the 51kg category with ease.
