My previous article on social bookmarking made me to write something about Digg. So just to inspire people who haven't started working their dreams this would be a good article to go with.

One of the most said word among bloggers, content writers and article submitters to get appreciation for their content or to get unusual traffic to their sites is Digg. This social bookmarking site has made its online presence way back in 2004 on 4rth day of December. Digging into its history I got how it all started.

Kevin Rose who used to produce and host segments in a cable television network called TechTV in US having 45 million subscribers was the key person behind Digg. Having an idea about Digg, Kevin has searched for a programmer who could code this site and he found Owen Byrne through a famous freelancing website called eLance. By October 2004 he got his hosting and his famous Digg.com domain ready after spending 1300 dollars. Some sources say Owen Byrne was paid 10$ per hour for coding his website in PHP.

As every story has a tough beginning this story also has. Having his entire mind set firm on how to make news being published in his front page and make people voting them that which they liked most had made him to spend all his money. He had to do a down payment on a house out of his saved money but made up his mind on spending on digg which made his girlfriend fight with him. After spending his money and time on Digg he was all set to launch this site on Dec 5th 2004.And It happened as he wished.

From the day of its launch until it reached to the list of 100 top visited websites of US it was a encouragement for the staff who were constantly looking at the increasing numbers day by day. Users were multiplying, popularity was increasing, topic submissions are at their peak and its not over that was just a beginning. After constantly increasing their servers, upgrading their features and increasing their employees was all being efficiently done at a good pace. Not falling behind at any level their income also started coming by placing ads from top advertising companies like Adsense.

Now within few months after its launch no wonder Kevin Rose was on the list of Young entrepreneurs. One of the top magazine called Business week had its cover page which ran with words like “how this kid made $60 million in 18 months”. He was also noted in many blogs and sites as the most successful earner of adsense. Many things changed from then, Kevin also acted as the CEO of Digg later resigned from that post and now is even out of digg. Digg is presently the 4rth version after its launch. If you want to have an eye on the company’s advancements and more can refer wikipedia.
