Social bookmarking one of the key weapons for building up ones traffic. These sites are many in number and still growing. I just made a note of few sites and people behind them who have created an unique presence in the present generation. These sites generally revolve around voting, tags and popularity. Most of the leading blogs and sites wouldn't have got such a traffic if these sites weren't build. Sites and blogs who need exposure to their articles generally use these sites. So here I go with a list of such sites arranging them in the order of Alexa rank as on April 12th 2011. The rankings and sites may change in due time.

1. Twitter: I think there is no need for mentioning about this site as it is already in the list of top ten most visited websites. This site was created by Jack Dorsey and it serves the purpose of social bookmarking and social networking. It has a alexa rank of 9.

2. Stumbleupon: We could say this site has revolutionized the field of social bookmarking leaving behind many sites, it gradually took a leap and now stands the second most visited social book marking site having an alexa rank of 124. It was founded by Garrett Camp and Geoff Smith in November 2001. It is having 26 million unique visitors with 210 million page views which made it to makes its way to the top ten list. Being a tough competer for digg it surpassed it in mean time and still standing strong.

3. Digg: Most of the blogs and websites wouldn’t have got such an enormous traffic if Kevin Ross hadn’t turned up in the making of Digg. Standing on the top of the third most visited social book marking site of all time with an alexa rank of 135. Its style and simplicity had won the hearts of many. Recently it had upgraded its theme and few of its features now it is called Digg V4 of course from its launch it has been improvising a lot. Approximately it is estimated to have 23 Million visitors a day with 73 Million unique page views. Recently Kevin Ross has resigned from this company. I think no one would have forgotten his cover page on one of the editions of Business week which read how this kid made $60 million in 18 months.

4. Reddit: Reddit was founded by Steve Huffman and Alexis Ohanian both graduates from University of Virginia. Reddit is named "2010 Hottest San Francisco Companies” list in Lead411's.It is now aquired by Condé Nast Publications, who owns Wired. Its alexa ranking is 136 surprisingly just 1 rank behind digg. Having chances to take over digg within a couple of months. It is having an approximate value of 13 million visitors per day and 970 million page views. This site is mostly visited by male audience.

5. Delicious: It was formerly called as Del.icio.us. Having made a neat and descent looking social book marking site Joshua Schachter has made waves in the field of social book marking. Touching an alexa rank of 238 could easily make it stand in the top list. It approximately has 12 million visitors a day with 46 million page views. Delicious has been bought by yahoo and is now a part and parcel of yahoo. Yahoo also made their mind to sell this site in near future. Surely we don’t want to see it like Propeller which even being a leading site had to die.
