Nokia is all set to release it new phone Lumia 920 powered by Windows 8 OS today in New York. The Nokia Lumia 920 is said to roll under the PureView brand. But unlike the powerhouse camera of PureView 808, Lumia 920 will host an 8 MP camera and not the behemoth 41 MP camera the PureView 808 utilises.
Technology blog The Verge has confirmed that Lumia 920, and its younger sibling the Lumia 820, will feature a new charging mechanism, one that will require the phones to be charged wirelessly.
The charging on the new Lumia phones will be induction based; contacts on the smartphones will be in line with contacts on a unique charging pad. Users can avail this option but will have to buy separate covers for it to work.
However, users will need to buy a separate cover to enable this functionality.
According to leaked images posted by @evleaks on Twitter, the charging mechanism is based on alignment of both the phone and the specially designed charging pad.
Interestingly, both smartphones will carry the Qi wireless power standard, enabling overall compatibility with other devices which support wireless charging
When it comes down to specs, the Lumia 920 will be powered by a 1.5 GHz dual-core processor, 32GB of internal storage and running on 1GB RAM. Rumours about a 4.5-inch HD display have also been confirmed.
Following in its brother’s footsteps, the Lumia 820 will also feature a 1.5 GHz dual-core processor along with 1GB RAM but with 8GB of built-in storage. Nokia seeks to provide the Lumia 820 user with a microSD slot for additional storage purposes. The phone will also host a smaller 4.3-inch screen.
Remember Lumia 710 with its interchangeable back covers, well the Windows 8-based Lumia 820 will have the same option, plus with new and refreshing colours.
